What customers say?

“ Not a fancy place, seemingly a garage rather than a tea house but the owner knows its stuff well. It ticked my box as a respected tea house. I was looking for a decent Pu'er in the city. They served me with the pot of second-round hot water, as the first round is just to "wake the tea up". The tea is of good quality, as it stands the test of third-round of boiling water without losing much taste. In my experience, it is either more than 3 years' old or from a rather old tree in Yunan. A truly pleasant afternoon tea experience. The roof is laid with old coffee bean bags and an oldest coffee roaster in the middle of the house. It appears to be a house full of stories... ”

“ This quiet , unassuming place hides a wealth of knowledge. It really doesn’t look like much as you enter , but the coffee is definitely worth it ! ( Still haven’t tried the teas as yet ) Classical music in the background, the smell of caffeine, and plenty of places to sit for a while to relax The proprietor, Simon is extremely well informed about his brews , and takes great pride in making a great cup of coffee. Kappys has two coffee machine , including the oldest working machine in South Australia circa 1951. It takes 35 minutes to warm up and is only usually turned on Friday and Saturday and only makes double ristrettos . This machine takes longer than a modern machine to extract the coffee , and uses half the amount of water , but there is no acidity in this brew - definitely recommend trying this if you are a coffee fan . Kappys also offers some interesting teas if coffee is not your drink of choice . There is only one cake made daily by a retired chef - I was lucky enough to have the mandarin and almond cake, which was so moist and had a loads of texture ( but not too sweet ) and it was the perfect accompaniment to the coffee that I had that day. Kappys is also the cheapest place that I’ve come across and doesn’t charge for alternative milks either , which is a pleasant surprise. Don’t expect bells and whistles or Instagram pictures, but for people who are truly interested in a good coffee experience this is certainly a place to come . ”

“ Incredible tea selection! The owner is so knowledgeable, was fantastic learning about the tea as you made your selection and enjoyed it. The brownie sourced from Sofitel was absolutely incredible too, seriously the best. Looking forward to coming back. ”

“ What a find! Stumbled upon this place walking around. The history is amazing! They have one of the oldest largest roasting machines in the southern hemisphere as well as one of the oldest coffee machines! The gentleman working here took the time to discuss the history of their business, the ins and outs of coffee and tea trade. I feel I should pay extra for the history tour! The venue was like an industrial shed lined with old coffee bags, was dimly lit and had vintage music faintly in the back ground. Great spot to sit and ponder as the world goes by. I ordered my usual Iced Soy mocha. (As I do) Was a medium roast, with large ice chunks. Was very refreshing. 4.6/5 ⭐ They had a gluten free mandarin cake, that came with fresh cream. Super moist, like home made. 4.7/5 ⭐ This is way more than a "cafe" it's a historical journey, that brings you to the roots of coffee and tea here in Adelaide and Australia. I will be regularly coming back, and will share with my friends. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ”

“ Great range, great quality, great calm environment. I make sure to stop by regularly whenever I'm in town. Team is attentive - we came along in the midst a heat wave but they made sure to set up the huge fan to keep things comfortable indoors! Alan is a gem who knows his stuff, makes great banter and drink, and makes visiting a true delight!!! ”

“ It was a lovely space. The gentleman who made my latte was very kind and wonderful. I’d love to visit again. ”

“ First time getting a coffee at Kappy’s and pleasantly surprised with the homely interior and amazing service. This place is far beyond your standard cafe. They roast their own beans, have a wide selection of roasts and brews, and top it off with amazing service and fair prices. Got a cappuccino with oat milk, which was made perfectly, and was also entertained with pleasant conversation while it was being made. The interior is beautiful, with plenty of visual installations, making a perfect spot to hangout and soak up the culture. ”
